We analyze the kinematics of electron-positron production in a photon-photon interaction when one has a modification of the special relativistic kinematics as a power expansion in the inverse of a new high-energy scale. We derive the equation for the threshold energy of this reaction to first order in this expansion, including the effects due to a modification of the energy-momentum. S.       We review the current state and future prospect of ultra high energy cosmic ray physics and the relationship between cosmic rays and gamma‐ray astrophysics. The Highest Energy Cosmic Rays: AIP Conference Proceedings: Vol , No 1.   The high-energy all-particle spectrum of cosmic rays follows a power-law like behavior (∞ E γ, γ ≈ −) with features known as “knee” a t 10 15 eV (with steepening the spectrum: γ ≈ −) and the ankle at ⋅ 10 18 eV (with again flattening the spectrum). The KASCADE experiment has shown that the knee is due a distinct decrease of the flux of primaries with light.

The existence of extremely high energy cosmic rays (EHECRs) with energies exceeding 10 20 eV has been reported by the AGASA experiment.

These cosmic rays may be produced in the active astronomical object in the outer galaxy and propagated a long distance toward the Earth. Proceedings of International Workshop for Extremely High Energy Cited by: CiteSeerX - Document Details (Isaac Councill, Lee Giles, Pradeep Teregowda): Extremely high-energy(EHE) cosmic rays might provide a chance to check a violation of the Lorentz symmetry of spacetime.

Some theoretical consideration is described about why the Lorentz symmetry might breakdown in EHE phenomena in this universe. Some models which introduce the violation of the. recent work in the field of what is normally known as high-energy physics — though in the context of this conference such energies seem quite low.

Ellis Ave., Chicago, IL,USA The evidence for the existence of cosmic rays with energies in excess of eV is now overwhelming. Ultra-High-Energy (UHE) particles of cosmological origin (cosmic-rays and neutrinos), carry information on the most spectacular events known.

These extremely energetic (energies larger than 1 ZeV = 10 21 eV) cosmic-rays or neutrinos initiate in the lunar regolith a cascade of charged particles which acts as a radio pulse emitter. Later experiments have helped to identify the sources of cosmic rays with greater certainty.
